I have always been confused between the difference between yearling mix or yealing cubes????? I always think the mixes look more appealing but anyone know the difference or which is preferable???

there's usually no difference apart from a mix is slightly higher in starch and a cube is marginally easier to digest.

but the spec is basically the same (within 1 manufacturer), suppliers make mixes cos people like to feed them, its actually harder to make a mix than a cube bizarrely. (i work for a company that makes pig feed you see)

as to which is preferable... i like feeding a mix, and one of ours won't eat cubes - he even separates out some of the small cubes in the mixes! - but with a cube you can soften it if they have poor teeth (or are sore in the mouth for some reason) which doesn't happen in a mix.

i would see which the horse prefers if you have no preference.

I think mixes are more appealing to horse owners rather than the horses - we tend to look at things in a human way - and all those crunchy little pieces look more appetising! LOL!
ANYTHING is more appealing to H though - as long as it's got mollasses and sugar/starch in (anything that she can't eat! LOL!)
I prefer to feed nuts

the reason mixes are more expensive is that it is harder to make them and it takes longer to mix all the stuff together so that it is all evenly spread (cos the bits are all different sizes, where as in cubes, the stuff is all ground together so it is the same size, then cooked and mixed before pelleting),

fount of useless knowledge me....
