Well the end of a little era. My stallion is no more......

And him quietly mooching around the field back in the Fall:

He was the nicest, nicest, most quiet and well behaved guy I have come across in a long while. We have 3 foals by him waiting to come out and visit the world so we are quite excited about that.
smile.gif

Anyway, much as I will miss him being my fabulous stallion.......I reckon he will be an ever more fantastic gelding.
smile.gif

His gelding went completely smoothly; HUGE bollox! Dogs had a good old time munching away on them
wink.gif
. Minimal blood, no issues whatsoever; he was done standing up and even though I really don't like this way, I have to say it went perfectly. He is back in his field now with his mares and is munching quite happily on his hay.

It was a tough decision to have to make, but the business has to come first and although he is a great little guy and would never put a foot wrong, I can't say the same for the mares here! When it was just my mares here then it wasn't a big deal but I have some super WB's fillies boarding here and it would not be good if an accident occurred
blush.gif
..... therefore gelding him was the safest option available to him. It also allows my daughter to show him if she wanted to - and I will now back him properly and have him riding out and hopefully by the Summer we might take him to meet up with some cattle.

He could easily become my replacement for my Oscar, the horse I am having such trouble coming to a decision on whether to sell or not.

I know - I am horrid aren't I

.

Well when I checked Golden with the nail test, it says she is having a colt....so might not totally be the end of his line at this farm.
smile.gif

Oh my - I thought you meant he had died! I can see why you need to geld him and I'm glad it went well. Poor boy - I bet he's a bit sore!

Still don't think you should sell Oscar.

Wow been looking for a stallion like that for a year for our place! It's a tough decision to make, but it's so hard to have a stallion around. We've bought one now, but are going to geld him in the autumn so we don't have to worry about him in the winter. He looks lovely - he'll still be great as a gelding.

Blimey I just had a heart attack! It's a shame really as he is such a nice horse but is the right thing to do and you never know one of his babies might take over from him.

Oh poor stallion. opps gelding.
I hate having mine gelding (always buy colts), as they are such charectors, needs must i suppose...
Lovely boy even tho he has no b*::s. lol

Lol I laughed and then I cringed. You can take the girl out of the U.K.......
grin.gif

Its horrible isn't it? You never really feel as though you did the right thing. Well I didn't anyway.

LOL!! @ Casey!!
grin.gif

Yes Cloud is due in a couple of weeks...however her foal will not be registered and it is supposed to be a filly so .......
wink.gif

Golden, on the other hand IS registered therefore the foal could remain a stallion and we could use him for a few years as she has superb breeding too ..... although he is supposed to be getting sold to my lovely neighbour who also wants my Oscar

Always the girls causing the problem!!!

It's true though! He is soooooo good, he can be in an adjoining field and he would NEVER mount the fence as he is a complete (well not so complete now
grin.gif
) and utter gentleman ....but those harlots!! Well they come up and stick their bottoms through the fence and tease the living daylights out of him
grin.gif
.

Tia!
mad.gif
You enjoyed that didn't you?
smile.gif
I seriously thought for a moment that some accident had befallen Ezzy!

Very pleased to hear that his alteration went well and that the dogs enjoyed lunch.....hmmmm, who cut the gonads up so that the dogs had an equal share then?

I know you won't be registering Clouds foal, but if you wanted to, could you? Or are half/part breds not accepted into the APHA book? Do people bother registering part-breds (of any breed)? Just wondering as Lola's foal will technically be a part-bred arab and if it would be worth the bother registering it as such as a selling point.

I know I am a bad girl!!
shocked.gif
grin.gif

No I won't be registering Cloud's foal and I don't think APHA allow part-breds anyway. Golden's will be registered obviously.

Where Lola is concerned - ABSOLUTELY register her foal as a PB. I know to you and I it is laughable...however over here people seem to LOVE having something with papers and it really will increase the value.

Good form of protein don't you know.
grin.gif

Only one dog ate them, the big black dog, and she took about 20 minutes to rip and tear them apart. She was munching away and it was quite interesting to see inside them

I was swallowing a bite of my salad when I read that!

So glad this is not the kind of post I was dreading! I'd rather a gelding post than a PTS one anyday! Good luck with him Tia and best of luck with your decision about Oscar!

Is Golden part-coloured or solid palomino? Just wondering what lovely colour combination the foal will turn out as! No part bred APHA's, hmm, how does that work then? Are QH and APHA interchangeable according to colour? Robin has an APHA sire and QH dam but is reg APHA, so I could put her to a QH?
mad.gif
mad.gif
Confusing, I have been trying to read up on it but my eyes keep glazing over.

LOL about the part bred arab, I thought it might help especially as I dread a bay colt
frown.gif
even though the nail says girl, a palomino would be good please) It won't even help that the mare is double Bask either
mad.gif
Good enough to put back in foal to a decent stallion.

Could've been worse......it could have been a burger or strawberry jello!!

Or..........meat balls

Evie would have wanted to dissect them, she's really into things like that, the cat killed a mouse the other day and was examining (with two nails! metal ones, not finger nails
crazy.gif
) that little green gut that they always leave for you to stand on.Yesterday morning she was going to be a Vet nurse, but then she won a basketball competition and so might be a CheerLeader and marry a Basketball player instead......get her!

No you could never register any paint as a QH; once a paint is involved it's progeny will ALWAYs only be registerable as APHA.....never AQHA. However an AQHA can be registered as APHA.....because all APHA's are AQHA's....heeeheee trying to confuse you.
grin.gif

AQHA's on the other hand can be part-bred....they are called Appendix horses. That means you can cross a purebred AQHA with a TB and you will have a registerable Appendix QH.

Golden is a breeding stock paint and most of her line for the past 50 years or so have been duns or palominos; either tobiano's or solids. I did a colour test and she has a high percent chance of throwing a palomino tobiano and then the next percentages were all varying colours of tobiano and there was only a 6% chance of a solid. Obviously where she is concerned I am very much hoping for a tobiano.

I'm not bothered what Cloud's turns out to be but when I did the test on her, she is running at 56% grey and white tobiano.

Oh I didn't know if anyone knew, so I hastily edited my post - the missing line is 'so she is then, goodie, more babies!'

Glad it went well today.

Seems you've done it for all the reasons I mused about to you earlier. Great minds and all that eh?
tongue.gif

He's a lovely boy and now he can get out there on the showing scene, I'm sure you will love and enjoy him all the more.
grin.gif

Question...if neighbour said she wanted Ezzy or Oscar....which would you let go first? I'm thinking the latter.

LOL!! I haven't had her checked....was going to do it today but the rain came tumbling down. I think there is absolutely no doubt though that she IS pregnant. I rode Golden out bareback the other day and she is VERY round...big difference in her.
