Has a missunderstanding like this one ever happened to you?
Male friend of mine was learning to ride - he had mastered the basics and was doing riding trot fine.
In one lesson in the indoor school - he was going to start cantering - he was sooo keen ! So from trot he went into canter - and managed to do the long side of the school - however, when he got to the corner he lost balance and rhythum etc and gripped onto his reins.
Well the poor horse - George - didnt know what to do - so, as the chap was bouncing about a bit - George just went faster .... the instructor was saying to the chap - relax your hands - give with your hands etc , and then said the classic - push your reins towards his ears - give your reins away.....
At which point, the chappie pushed his hands forward and dropped the reins at the back of the horses ears !!!
How the hell he didnt fall off I dont know, and bless George (the horse) he stopped dead after a few more strides! But the poor chappie couldnt understand why the rest of us were falling around laughing !!
I wondered how many other "horsey sayings or terms" have been completely miss understood by "none horsey" or novice riders ????
