Kibble is a complete diet - protein, vits, minerals, fibre, carbs etc and shouldn't be fed alongside anything which might affect the balance of that diet. Mixer is cereals mainly, so fibre and carbs, which accompany a meat diet which contains the protein required - specifically designed to top up.

thanks-I sort of get that although I've never fed a mixer. its the kibble being digested at a different rate and therefore not being suitable to be fed at the same time-but then mixer being fine-that I'm not getting. So if you could balance out the two (theoretically, I'm feeding a complete diet atm) they could be fed at the same time then? Its not a wet/dry thing?

congrats on your 5000th post btw :D

Oh thank you, never noticed I'd become an old nag!
We always used to feed tinned with a mixer (Winalot) in the same dish when we had family dogs, to kind of bulk out the meat content. I have no idea about rates of digestion, dogs aren't trickle feeders, they evolved to only eat every few days when they caught prey, so I don't imagine digestion rates are that significant?
Mine get a good quality kibble once a day, with the occasional left over.

Mixer isnt fine though. If you raw feed then you should only raw feed for that meal, and definitely not add kibble OR mixer. I know some people do feed raw one meal and something else the next, but its not something I would want to do.

Makes absolutely no difference if you feed raw and kibble together, no science behind the myths.

well, thats what I thought (not that I necessarily agree) but then realised some pre-made RAW manufacturers are making mixers and RAW suppliers are stocking different ones.

Agree, old boy who has a delicate tummy, gets wet, kibble, raw, all in one bowl. Never been an issue. His only issue is tripe, he vomits it back within ten minutes and sometimes reacts to pigs ears.

Neither is it true that dogs evolved to only eat once every few days. They may only get a fresh kill once every few days but they are scavengers and will eat carrion and vegetation, so will eat relatively frequently.
