Just curious as to how you wash your sheepskin!

Seeing as you are the resident expert!

I was having a sheepskin washing session and wondered what the sheepskin queen would do

My mum just recently got me some Eco Balls for all my horse washing - so I put all of my stuff on a cool wash with eco balls - so no detergent.

Anyone elses methods?

At Burghley (a guy was trying to sell me a VERY expensive one!!:) ) and he said put human conditioner on it and then put it in the washing machine.
I'd get some more HHOer advice tho cause ive never done it and dont want to wreck you sheepskin!!

I have a couple Mattes sheepskin half pads and numnahs. I always cover them in human hair conditioner and then put them in the washing machine on the wool wash - use a liquid wool detergent not powder. When washed do not hang to dry in direct sunlight.

Just get the cheapest conditioner from Tescos or somewhere - I think its about 30p a bottle.

Ahhh - interesting about the conditioner...

Does that make it all nice and fluffy when it comes out?

And how much conditioner do you put on? Just sort of a good covering all over - or a splodge and make it spread out a long way?

Mine still look like new - haven't gone matted at all. I just sort of spoldge lots of conditioner on all over and then rub it in all the sheepskin bits. I use probably half a bottle per pad/numnah as I like to make sure it is all well covered to keep them looking nice.

I shall try that the next time I am washing my sheepskin!

This was the first time I have washed them with the eco balls, and I have to say it came out looking really lovely.

I use the eco balls for everything now, and they really seem to work - even get my whites white!

It's the only way to keep it looking like new, and when it doesnt look new anymore....I might just go shopping....

My riser pad never gets dirty as I always use it on top of a saddlecloth

If the back ever gets a bit greasy, I use a dog brush to comb the dirt out

Likewise my seatsaver! My noseband cover has never been washed, and I've had it over a year with constant use! My girth cover just goes in the washing machine with non-bio and plenty of conditioner, and when I had sheepskin tendon boot inserts, they went in the machine too

Never quite the same afterwards though!
