Zaks just started dropping weight, at the moment he is only on a maintenance feed of;

pasture mix
topspec balancer
BOSS
apple cider vin
alfa A oil (only 2 large handfuls)

mmmm that sounds quitev a lot for a maintenance!!But i know there is not a lot in there that will keep his weight up so have to give him something more. Just to note he doesnt like oil so i cant add that. Please could you suggest what i should change him to?

thank you!

I wouldn't change his feed, but just increase the quantity of alpha A, this should provide the energy needed to make him gain weight without the added risk of making him fizzy.

I would just up his hay intake and Alfalfa to start with- one of mine has just slightly dropped off a little due to the weather and I have just upped his hay and Alfalfa.

If in a few weeks he still doesn't look better you could try conditioning cubes however I am always wary of changing a horses feed if they have been going well on it.

I have found that Linseed Oil is the best for condition however in the past I have used Red Cell or Propell during the Autumn when they start getting their winter coats- I found it quite useful.
Are his worming and teeth are up to date?...

Good luck!

Yeh worming and teeth both in check!Yeh oil would be perfect-but he wont touch the stuff!!Ill def up the alfa and hay though thanks

No worries-just thought I'd ask re teeth and worming- your horse looks like a nice sort though! the extra fibre should help keep his condition, good luck-

The horse dropping condition could be to do with the stress he is under with regards his turnout at the moment. I agree with others about increasing his ration - but do look at the cause as well.
