We moved our horses to the winter field yesterday. It is a big day for the horses and they always get very excited. My friend at the field was quite short with me when i was faffing around and said we HAD to be the first in there.

We managed to move our four first (very scary leading Monty, the slowest horse ever, and Zoom, the fastest horse ever, down an icy lane but we made it!!). Zoomy had a bit of a blast but luckily old Monty was very precious and just had a roll and small trot.

Now when all the other horses started arriving, everyone was squealing and whooping and flapping when they let the horses go encouraging them to gallop about.

Why on earth would anyone WANT their horse to gallop around on frozen, icy, rutted ground??!!

The horses went mad and Zoomy joined in. Luckily she is ok today. I was SOOO worried about my old boy. He is nearly 30 and his poor old legs can't take it. Luckily my friend's 23yo gelding and Monty just pottered around together while everyone else was bucking and farting.

Sorry, pointless moan but I had my heart in my mouth watching Monty.

grrrrrr. It's one thing watching the high spirits on soft spring grass but I agree about the icy ground. Good old monty though, obviously trying to set a good example to the youngsters!

The next thing they are posting on here, "How do I stop my evil horse spinning and kicking his hooves in my face every time I turn him out??".

i've never understood why people do that either. some horses go mad the second they're out in a new field, but i wouldn't encourage them to charge around anyway and deffinately not on hard, frozen ground.

Nope.....they can see the winter field from the summer field. Once the first horses start moving, the ones left in the summer field start galloping about. It's rubbish!!!

I love watching the horses having a gallop and a buck but definitely not on this ground, and not when there's a big herd of them all doing it at once! If Belle does that, even on fine ground, I worry and can hardly watch, I think I'd be a nervous wreck if she did it on ice, would never ever encourage it, even on fine ground
