Molasses, cereal, alfalfa and SUGARBEET free feed?

Bloody horse is turning into a nightmare to feed! I only need something to mix his supplements with, but it must be free of the above. All I can think of is grass nuts, and got a bag from simple systems and indeed they did the job, no issues with them, but they are a nightmare to get hold of. No where near me stocks them. I could order in bulk from SS, but they will go out of date before I finish them.

i can't find any other suitable feeds to use. It must be sugarbeet free as even a tiny amount makes him scour. Are grass nuts my only option? If so where can I get them? Ive tried to get local places to order them and they say they can't.

Seriously though, I feed Fast Fibre, but I currently live in an area where feed stores only seem to stock molassed feeds and sugary mixes, it can be just as much a chore to get hold of as Simple Systems.
 
Ask your supplier if they can get Graze-On grass nuts from Northern Crop Driers. Much like SS only way cheaper - I have been buying it for years. It is best soaked, or else mix with some chop, it would be a choke risk on its own.
 
Any grass nuts? My local feed store has there own ones.

Also there is a straw chop that the mollichop people do that is just chopped straw, with nothing else on it.
 
Chaff type feeds don't mix with the supplements very well - I can soak nuts into a mash. But looks like I might just have to use redigrass or something. Just means I get half the powder supplement still left around the bucket

You could try soaking the grass chaff for a few hours beforehand to see if it becomes more mash like to hold the supplement better.
 
Just managed to delete my reply halfway through...

My lad can't have alfalfa or soya, and I steer clear of molasses where possible. Doesn't leave much!

Graze-on and Readigrass are both just dried grass and pretty sure you can order both from GWTitmuss, who are great to order from. If you soak it for a while, it does re-hydrate enough to hold most of the supplement - but still not as good as a mash.

Halleys does timothy or straw chop - so lower sugar than flash dried grass - and they do blocks as well. When you soak the blocks, they make a nicer mushy texture that would hold supplements better. Only stopped getting them as too expensive as forage, but broken up and soaked, could be a good alternative?

I think pure feeds have SB pellets in them. Having said that, I think pure feeds are excellent,

If you look at my own post a bit further down the page, I have been agonising over feed as well. I had to relent an alfalfa if I wanted anything other than plain straw
