As if I didnt have enough on dealing with cold weather I now have a mole digging up my garden and paddocks ( I have no idea how he is getting through the frozen soil!) Anyone have a good idea of how to get rid of the damn things?

Mole traps in the garden, and in the paddock if safe poke some electric fencing posts in the field with flappy carrier bags on them or anything that will carry the vibration down into the ground

We have them in our orchard and are now encroaching into the horse paddock, driving me in sane my dad has more traps set up (in orchard not horse paddock) than you can imagine and not caught a single one! You can put worms down the mole hole soaked in syanide(sp) this worked a treat but its apparantley illegal now, but if I could get hold of the stuff I would certainly be using it cant stand the the little B*****ds. And after all who would see me doing it! Rant over but seriousley if you find a cure let me know!

I used to rent a field that had a mole problem. I got the landlord to get a mole man in. He dug into their runs and set traps. He caught loads.

You're are going to think I'm daft, but we tried it and it definately works.......You need to bury some glass bottles in the ground with just the top of them peeking out. We used old milk bottles, because they had relatively wide tops. The wind then blows across the top of the bottle and the moles dislike the noise / vibration.....simple but very effective!! Good luck with the digging in this weather though!

A Mole-man is what you need! He may have to make a couple of visits to knock the problem on the head (so to speak

) but it works better than struggling to manage the problem on your own.

Those of you who as also nearly ''penshuners" !!!!!!!
may remember this...

and, of course, you will remember
<font color="blue">His attempts to capture the mole were unsuccessful and only added to his frustration. Eventually he placed an ad in the local paper looking for a mole catcher. It was the neighbourhood mole trapper who answered the ad and he asked the rich man, "How much will you pay me if I catch the mole?" Without hesitation the rich man replied, "I'll give you 500 dollars, but I also want you to give him the worst death you can think of because of all the sleepless nights and stressful days that mole has caused me."

The next day the mole catcher showed up and said, "I've caught your mole and I've come to collect." The rich man was jubilant, but he had to inquire, "And what death did you give him?" "I gave him the most horrible death I could possibly think of", the catcher replied, "I buried him alive!"

lol I was also reminded of Jasper Carrot. I would not like to think of the little sweeties being assassinated though. I do like the idea of the wind in the bottles, try that, at least it is kind. They don't know they are digging up your treasured pasture after all.

I guess if they used glass bottles you could use any, milk, beer etc...I am sure if you asked the local pub they would let you have some empties for free

Edited to say, I wonder what happens when they fill up with water from the rain. You may have to go round with a straw and empty them again

try blowing in an empty plastic bottle to see if that makes a sound
