Hi, my horse came to me on a diet of hifi senior, Alpha A and unmollassed beet.

Today I have been to the feed merchants and they have sold out of unmollassed beet and I have come away with mollassed.

There is no particular reason Ellie shouldn't be on mollassed but I don't want to change her diet. Will feeding her mollassed beet be OK until I can get hold of any unmollassed?

She is 27 and could do with putting a bit of weight on.

The only difference is the sugar content. Do you have any unmolassed left? If not, just keep an eye on her whilst changing the diet, but it should *touchwood* be ok since it is fibre rather than cereal.

thanks, she's normally on fibre beet and I am actually away for a couple of days over the weekend which is when I would be able to get hold of any.

My fault for waiting until I have run out before going to the feed merchants, lesson learnt!

I will start her on the molassed beet and as soon as I can get hold of any fibre beet will reintroduce it again as it is what she is usually on.

As long as she has no tendency to laminitis it should be OK, but she may be a bit bouncier than usual as most molassed beets are about 20% sugar compared to unmollassed at 5%. I feed my veteran molassed beet and she is fine on it.
