Im feeding Marco on this at the moment, im not sure if its got much nutrition in it, or whether it actually makes them calmer, but i just bought it because i wanted a low energy chaff as marco was on box rest and he doesnt like dengie hi fi or alfa a or any of those.

Marco is a fussy thoroughbred, and i must say he loves this molichaff calmer. It does smell really nice, very herby, i would be tempted to try it, lol! Anyway, marco doesnt seem to loopy at the moment, so it might be calming, its hard to tell though cos he's just come off from box rest this week!

Great I have a moody high strung TB, currently on dengie hifi original, ride and relax, speedibeet, calm and condition and 20 billion calmers and supplements. I need to simplify. Anyone add speedibeet and vitamins to Mollichaff calmer?

Interesting, maybe worth a try :D
Dont you find that you go through it quicker though. I tried Mollichaff a couple of years ago and my Hi Fi lasts for weeks but the moolichaff didnt so it probably worked out more expensive??

Just wanted to say to Rotchana, Speedibeet and normal sugar beet sent my horse loopy. Just a thought.

Oh we have so been there with our TB mare! I have a photo somewhere of all her supplement/calmer pots. She had so many, we were probably cancelling some of them out! In the end, it go so expensive we gradually withdrew all of them.

She has Hi Fi chaff, mixed with Bailey's Hi Fibre Cubes, Apple Cider Vinegar, apples and carrots. In the winter she has a generous helping of Fibre Beet mixed in with that. She got quite ribby in late Dec/early Jan but came back up when we changed hay supplier and increasing the beet and cubes. I did consider adding Pink Powder at that point but she seemed ok without it.

This diet has evolved because if we feed her anything cereal based, or chaffs like Alpha A Oil for instance, she wind sucks even more and gets really hyper.

This spring we have relented and got some Oestress, it will be interesting to see if it works as she is on no other supplements at the moment.

eta- my daughter has just corrected me, she doesn't have calmer chaff any longer, she has Hi Fi. Sorry. If I could add an embarrassed face I would!

Did the Oestress work? My mare is a hair's breath from unrideable at the moment, I can just about lunge her with side reins, at the mo, given her concentration and separation anxiety

Yes, you do need to simplify, lol! ride and relax and calm and condition have unmollassed sugar beet in them, so your feeding 3 very similar feeds, which is not necessary. I find that these feeds didnt digest very well with my thoroughbred, and sugarbeet is known to upset sensitive horses stomachs! it can also be heating, so i would avoid if your mare is highly strung!

I would be inclined to just feed her on high fibre cubes and chaff, you may as well try the mollichaff calmer and a feed balancer.

i personally think all the calming supplements are just a way of making money out of horse owners, and i don't think they make a difference.
Your probably best just to try keeping her out more rather than stabled, or speak to your vet if she's really mareish and they may suggest you try regumate (sp?)

She only started having it 2 days ago, I think you have to load them up with it for a couple of weeks before seeing an effect, but I will let you know. I was looking at the ingredients and noticed that it contains chaste tree berry and magnesium in it, both are meant to soothe the inner diva.

She had it last year but she had a totally different diet and was also on about 4 other supplements and then we changed everything so last year it was hard to really attribute her eventual improvement to any one thing.

I have become quite cynical about some supplements, others I believe have a good purpose so I am waiting with interest to see which category I will put Oestress in!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've just started a separate thread about "Moody mare" supplements/thoughts.

Hi I have got a very fizzy high strung PBA/belguim warmblood 5 yr old spooky mare and have her on the mollichaff calmer with Ride & relax and global herbs frisky mare and supercalm. Just starting to see the benefit now 4 week into the feeding plan. She still her but just a bit more calmer and when she does spook or pass a field of sheep like this morning she looks turns but does not bomb off and will then walk past.

So far so good !

 I don't think I've ever seen such a list and it could be part of the problem if you are overfeeding her. I'm sure there is logic to it so I'm not having a dig but can you explain quantities and why she is on each one? Does she need to gain weight / condition? What is her work load?

I agree with Alfirules - I can't see why you'd feed both ride and relax and calm and condition plus sugar beet on top! I have some useful emails from Allen & Page who say there is no point adding sugar beet to Calm & Condition & if you need to gain more weight to add oil.

To answer your original question about Mollichaff Calmer. I feed it and find it great. I have a big spooky, warmblood who needed to gain weight but is allergic to Barley & Alfalfa. I feed one scoop Mollichaff calmer, one scoop calm and condition twice a day. I have never feed it as a complete feed although it is designed to be as I didn't think it would add condition or give him enough umph for competing.

Hope this helps!!!

I feed Harvey calmer chaff. He is still a t*t but seems to have helped a bit (touchwood.) I feed it along with NAF Magic.

I like it as it is low in molasses and also smells quite pleasent.

Hi..the key is to read the contents..Molichaff calmer has vits and minerals already added, it includes a higher level of magnesium which is deficient in a lot of forage, herbs like chamomile and high fibre pellets, it doesn't have molasses or alfalfa. Those who are feeding hi fi need to consider whether the alfalfa is having a heating effect. It is high protein and sends some horses nuts. I find it very effective, the horses seem to like it even with other added supplements.

I used to feed my highly strung tb mollichaff calmer with great results. I used to add calm and condition during the winter months also. Tried most calmers and they didn't make an ounce of difference! This winter he's had a scoop mollichaff calmer, simple systems total eclipse balancer (seaweed, linseed and brewers yeast) and joint eclipse supp (rosehips and linseed) and also adlib haylage at night. He's kept his weight on nicely, saved me a fortune and he's the sanest he's ever been!!

i started feeding it to my big girl and the new TB went on it when i got him a month ago, he is still a bundle of pent up energy but manageable, she is definetly calmer this spring than the previous 5 that i've had with her! they both get one scoop of mollichaff and a scoop of fibre nuts.

Agree with this - I think you're overdoing it....I have a highly strung TB who I am attempting to bring back into back into work after six months off. She is not a good doer. Goes out during the day for anywhere between six and 10hrs at the moment but is in the rest of the time.
She gets adlib haylage, fast fibre and a few Spillers high fibre cubes mixed in with the Fast Fibre. She's had this through winter while she's been off work and to look at her you would never think she had had any time off work as she looks fabulous. Rather than waste money on supplements which are only magnesium anyway, why not just add some magox powder to the feed and leave it at that. It works' out much cheaper and much simpler to do!
Good luck.
