Sort of working towards a feisability (spl?) study on owning a horse at the moment and would appreciate some advice from people in the chelmsford area.

How much would people recon to spend per week for DIY livery? Turnout year round would be a must but would consider grazing without a stable if there was a covered grooming area/somewhere to tie up to feed.

What are the hay prices like at the moment? what do people spend on a square bale?

What are farrier prices like? or trimmers? what do people pay out per shoe set/trim for the area?

Just looking at options at the moment, the one thing I know nothing about though is insurance, what sort of premiums to people pay for how much cover?

Thanks for reading.

can only help with insurance as no where near you im afraid,
i pay £237 per year with E & L - that includes everything except dental cover
you can also pay monthly - £23.70 pcm, but if you do it yearly you get 2 months free :D
good luck with horse hunting (remeber to get him/her vetted)

I'm in the southwest so maybe not much help but can give you some ideas on a couple of things

Hay seems to be ranging from £3 - £6 from what I can gather, all over the country, I think it's very dependant on your supplier.

My boy just gets trimmed and I pay £20 for this, I think that's about average from what people have said on here before but might be wrong...

I'm with KBIS for insurance and pay £27 a month. That covers all vets fees, public liability, personal liabilty and the value I wanted for him. There's loads of threads on here about different insurance companies and who to use, most would say avoid E&L like the plague but some others have good things to say about them. Personally, I moved, as they don't have a good reputation with vets and wanted someone who would pay out when needed (ideally) lol.
