As title really what are your best money saving tips when it comes to cheaper alernative products , feed, and supplements etc. I.e furniture polish for manes and tails.

For dirty bits-bicarbonate (sp?) of soda-wet bit then use a toothbrush and brush it on with litraly no effort then dunk in water and powder comes off. It's non toxic and has no taste, I also use it for feed/water buckets.

Bit wipes- soak cotton wool pads in anti-bacterial mouthwash so damp then store in air tight container it will also encorage them to take the bit because of the minty flavor too!! :p

What I've learned recently, is that most 'money saving' techniques encourage you to just buy stuff you don't normally use :p
Buy the food that suits your horse best. That'll be cheaper than loads of something less suitable, same with bedding - get it right any you'll probably use less :) Every time you go to buy a new gadget think 'does my horse really need this?' - chances are, the answer is no. Keep everything clean & stored well, and it'll probably last longer. I'd be very wary of using something like furniture polish on manes & tails, but I do wash them with cheapy conditioner (like supermarket own brand) in summer or tails in winter. Big car sponges are really handy, can be cut up too into 3 or 4 smaller sponges for different things. I buy feed buckets from asda (£2 each I think they were, I often make up a fair few feeds so I have them in the car rather than doing loads of trips to one of the yards so lots of buckets is handy for me).
Other than buying the odd saddlecloth to keep me happy, I generally buy on a 'need only' basis - and then shop around/buy in sales/buy secondhand. Seems to work as far as saving money! Also arranging vet/farrier/etc for them all on the same day or with other liveries to split call outs. :)
