I know we had this post a few weeks ago but I found it really helpful and discovered some great ideas so I'm bored and I thought we could do it again.

I'll start off.
Zinc and Castor cream- 77p from wilkinsons and good for mud-fever and all manner of scabby bits and sunburn etc.

Microfibre cleaning cloths- 99p (again from wilkinsons, they're fab, and I don't work for them I promise!!) make brilliant stable rubbers.

Big, big beach towels- fold in half length ways, hold a fleece cooler against it, bum end to the end of the towel and cut a slit in the towel along the top edge to meet the cooler. I then use this under the cooler after i've bathed my pony for the first 10-minutes, then whip it out and just put the cooler nback on.

Baby wipes for everything grubby noses and bums, (horses) and hands (humans!) bit rings and stirrup irons. Value vinegar and a value flannel for cutting through the grease in the coat and getting a nice shine.

Tesco grooming brushes. Less than a £1 and as good as any other.

Derby market for cheap rugs.

Orange washing bags for when you wash any horse related stuff as fixing/replacing a washing machine is expensive!

Tesco value baby shampoo for a multitude of sins.

Talcum powder as chalk powder - much cheaper!

A pot of mint growing at the yard to chuck in for fussy feeders & horses with snuffles

I thought the thread was a good idea, too ; )

will add more as I think of them!

Sudocrem also works well for mud fever and minor scratches etc.

Second the baby wipes - can be used for ANYTHING.

Also second the Tesco Value Shampoo - I use the apple one and its actually very good for cleaning greys and so cheap. Also use the conditioner for tails and sometimes I put a tiny bit in the final rinse water for a scurfy / itchy coat.

Vinegar, cold tea and citronella as a cheap fly repellent.

I make up my own hoof spray which seems to work well on thrush. I use Netex Hoof Health I think its called, its the BEST stuff for thrush but its expensive when used often so to make a general spray fo maintainence I use 1/2 of it with a little glug of Hibiscrub and fill rest with water in a spray bottle, shake well.

ohh and selling all those bits you just dont use on ebay!!

(I have two bin loads of rugs i marked 'for cleaning' last summer and have managed to get through the winter without using them as i purchased new ones!!)

Use a light turn out as a top layer over winter stable rugs. This way when the horse rolls in all the muck you only have one light rug to wash and dry rather than struggling with heavy stinky quilts.

baby oil for dull manes and tails good for a detangeler and helps with mud in mane
normal hair conditioner mixed with water for detangeler
lard for hoof oil
hair spray for sticky up hair when plaiting
