Monitoring is not illegal, and should not be restricted wherever crime might occur.

Freedom to monitor and show any criminal activity that might bring the perpetrators to book is paramount in the fight against all crime, including animal cruelty.

At best monitoring is an invasion of privacy; at worst it is harrassment, often accompanied by criminal trespass.

Perhaps we should put a camera in Peter Bunce's car to monitor him for breaches in motoring law; or maybe film Penny Little in her fox sanctuary to see whether she is abiding by the Animal Welfare Act?

You would think if they had a genuine interest in ensuring that foxes are not hunted or disturbed they might volunteer to lay the trail for them, then they could be absolutely certain of where the hunt was going and avoid any areas where they believe foxes might pop out and lead the hounds astray - or is that too practical?

Of course they would have to be quick about it - those hounds are always keen to follow a trail to the end!

How about the advice given out by the CA, they say that anyone SUSPECTED of being a monitor or anti should have their picture taken, their car registration taken (The cars usually being on a public highway) and passed on to a central database. Where does "invasion of privacy" and "harrassment" come into that? Is that getting close to breaching the data protection act ?

You mean like some sort of neighbourhood watch? Hmmm, good idea, you might want to bring it up with the councils.

Should any body be able to monitor anyone anywhere where they might commit a crime?
