Well, warmed up well for dressage to produce a nice calm accurate test and our best ever mark - it lacked energy and pzazz, b ut was a very pleasing 34.8 - excellent considering our average is 39.9!!

Two down SJ - one where he dithered at a very up to height oxer, the other at a tiny upright where he dangled his feet (and got a smack for it!).

Then XC - I was rather terrified after last week, and had already decided to do all the alternatives and take it steady, the aim being to complete. He went round beautifully clear, but got lots of time faults, which put us well out of the placings.Nothing eventful though, he didn't feel awkward at any point, just nice (if rather cross about being held back so much!). However, I am thrilled to have finally completed a novice clear XC. All the happier as I have produced him myself from scratch, and in April last year, neither he or I had ever done any affiliated eventing!

Well done - you should feel proud you have ridden him and produced him by yourself with no trainers sitting on him regularly or competing him for you. You have both come a long way and still have a long way to go where I think you can be very ambitious for next season. So Yorkshire RS in Feb so we can get under 30 dressage!!

Well done!

didn't see you though..

Pepper & I had a nice day - VERY p*ssed off with our dressage mark, I know I shouldn't blame the judge, but he really was biased as I thought (and my Mum did) that he did quite a nice test.

SJ was up to height wasn't it

I saw you! Saw the beginning of your XC, he and you looked very good and the commentator was very complementary!

And he is a BIG boy and you are a teeny weeny slip of a thing - no easy feat!

Thankyou! I am slightly concerned he may still be growing....

I actually did wonder if I would ever get there, but just recently it has all been coming otgether, even if the results don't quite reflect that.

Well done, at least at eventing you always achieve something and enjoy the challenge.Much better than show jumping and dressage. LOL

Really is! At least I know we did well, even though it looks liek we trotted round LOL.

Thanks V! I think we'll be at Novice for a long time yet though, it still feels like enough of a challenge!

You should be making plans to travel all round Europe next year! Also next year you will be jumping foxhunters and competing at Elementary level BD! You started the year at intro 90cm and are now doing 1.10 so going up 20cm in height was fine. Another 10cm to foxhunters will seem easy!! Luckily once the fences are taller than you they will not seem to get any bigger as you will not be able to see the top!!

PMSL you are bonkers! I love it, you saw my SJ nerves, and I still have to pretend to be fine at Novice, let alone blooming Fox! And as for elementary---hahahahaha no way! our dressage is so abysmal - though your warm up but without the letting him walk on a loose rein clearly works! Just needs more energy now, which will come (he had a real 'I am resigned to my fate' feel about him today!!)

Really? cool

I didn't hear anything from the commentator on my way round lol, I usually listen out!

Well done again

I know the TT competitive instinct will kick in very soon!
grin.gif
I bet you will be jumping nice and big! The warm up would terrify me though!!
I have been told to do BD over the winter and my theory is sod that!! Winter is enough of a nightmare to get through!
Glad the warm up worked - I am a genius no one recognises it though!!

Does it surprise you that after I knew my dressage (at the end) I spent the journey home saying 'I should have kicked on and taken the direct routes dammit'!! I knew I did the right thing after last week, but I wish I'd just not been such a wuss as we had a chance to get placed!

I have a local unaff dressage series to do once a month in the winter, that's enough for me!

No that does not surprise me! - what did you get for your long rein/free walk?
OMG both of us will have a whole 12 hours to moan about dressage next weekend before jumping!!

Something rubbish, six I think, comment about him not making enough effort, I know it is weak! I kicked more this time, and he didn't stare around, so that's an improvement. Whole test was very consistent sixes and sevens.

Sounds pretty good to me. It can only improve he has the right temperment for it all.

That was my comment when L said it lacked energy (which it did) - I would rather start with a calm obedient accurate test then razz him up that be battling with something nuts which blows up every time. For the first time ever, I had his concentration through the entire test. It was in a real teenage 'well if I have to' way, but I still had it! Next time he will hopefully improve again. Dressage is such boring baby steps!!

PMSL we are lucky we have scopy honest horses - you should have heard us at Dorset - the only reason we both jumped the 1.10 open is because neither of us wanted to back down first! LEC is very bad for my competitive spirit!
