I can't believe that I am going to write this but my beautiful boy is gone.
His bloods confirmed that he had leukaemia. He didn't respond to the antibiotics. I had a lovely weekend with him and then he was put to sleep this morning surrounded by people who love him.
I am heartbroken
I can't believe that I am never going to see him again. I am absolutely in bits
I met Monty when I advertised for a share horse at uni 5 years ago. I had already seen three that day but was blown away when I saw Monty. What a stunner!!! The fact that he proceeded to buck the whole way round the school didn't bother me at all! Within days of sharing him I realised his owner didn't look after him properly
He was kept on his own and only fed when I went down.
A year later I moved to London and begged his owner to sell him to me but she wouldn't. I cried lots and left him. 4 months later my OH was still living up there and was driving past the field with his parents. He stopped to say hi and found Monty in an awful state. The land owner came out and said that no-one had been down for months
Poor Monty was skin and bone. Non-horsey OH called owner then called me and the next day we went with a horse lorry and he came to London (after 3 hours loading and 4 broken toes of course!) as my OH said at the time 'we can't leave him', and we couldn't.
He didn't settle for months
He had 6 homes in 8 years so it's hardly suprising. I didn't sleep at all and told him every day that no-one was going to hurt him again and he could relax and be a horse. One day......he did! It was like a switch went in his head. Him and Zoom were like an old married couple. He was so contented and calm, he taught my mum to ride and also my godsons. The vet and dentist confirmed he was closer to 30 than 20 but I didn't mind. He still had his moments though (most notably the recent £1000 insurance claim for his rage against a parked car
). He also enjoyed spooking at trees/leaves/his own leg, chucking me on the floor and galloping off triumphantly.
He was an old grump! But he was MY old grump
So my gorgeous Monty Shnozzle - What can I say?! What a stroke of luck that we found each other. Your grandma thinks I saved you, but really you saved me. I am crying today because you are gone, but I will smile tomorrow because you were mine.
Don't worry about your Zoomy, I'll take care of her. Love you so much my beautiful boy. Sleep tight xxxxx
Photos from yesterday so please excuse bloody nose etc
