Hi I've been doing the monty roberts join up technique on my pony that I am bringing on to sell. He has been responding really well to this, the only problem I have is that he is still wary of when new people come to try him!!! He's a fab pony who has lovely movement and a grat jump pony but he needs to get to know new people before he relaxes therefore I'm having problems selling him!! Anyone have any ideas????

I would get as many people as possible to handle him so he gets used to strangers being around and doing things with him. if he has issues with people riding him then get as many people as possible to ride him and make sure they are calm around and on him so he picks up on it and learns to relax

If you have been using this approach and its working for him why not advertise him on the Intelligent Horsemanship website in the classifieds section? You can then give some history and are more likely to get interest in him by someone who will continue using the same methods. Good luck. :)

Could you take him out to some events to meet more people and see more of the world? He doesn't need to compete, just to graze and watch and learn to relax around others. It might even be that you could take him to local riding club events such as group lessons?

He loves competing, really relaxed and happy, it's just new people riding him. There's only so many people I alone can introduce him to

The thing with join up is that as successful as it between you and him (and that's great) it won't help one jot when it comes to introducing him to a prospective new owner. I'd suggest you are as honest as can be with people who come to view him, say he can be nervous with strangers, and ask if they might have the time to spend a morning or afternoon getting to know him. They could groom/lunge/ride, just sort of hang out with him, if they really are interested in buying him they'd be happy to..
