Honestly ... sometimes I wonder if he should have been a mare
Has anyone else got a moody gelding?
He is usually a darling but if it rains or he changes into a new field for grazing he gets the biggest grump on!!!

Can it be a sign of anything else going on I'm not thinking of?

He is stuffing him self silly with grass, comes in and is grumpy, doesn't want to be touched, stands on his bed looking sad and dozy. If I go near him with any tack the look in his eye is damn evil!

Any tips to cheer him up?

I am thinking of getting a muzzle for him, as I work full time so I have no choice but to leave him out in the day :( poor guy! I do have a love hate relationship with grass!

I suppose this is comment with a change in pasture? hope he settles soon, hate seeing him this way!

Could the grass be giving him tummy ache?

I find geldings can be every bit as grumpy as mares. Luckily, I have no grumpy ones at present. Your boy doesn't sound happy at all. I woulld be suspecting something such as gastric ulcers or other pain issues. I would have him checked over.

Can you leave him to himself for 1/2 an hour after getting him in? It might be enough for him to settle and be less grumpy? Sometimes you can't stop the grumpiness, you have to just manage it. My boy is terribly grumpy in the mornings in the winter after being in overnight, but if we turn him out so he can have a roll and then get him back in again, which he's very happy to do (comes to call even after 10 minutes!) he's fine! Archie without a roll in the morning is like me before my first coffee of the day. Sadly he's grey so I end up riding a filthy muddy mess of a horse, but he's happy and I'm less flustered as a result so I don't care! If we're going somewhere and I need him clean I turn him out in the school instead. It's acceptable to him but doesn't quite hit the spot like a muddy field does.

Could be pssm, my gelding is a right grump if he gets cold, or wet, he doesn't want to be touched at all when he feels like that.
