Hi, I have a 15 year old ID x mare called Lizzie, I got her in September last year and she had just finished a season so was very squealy but not playing up at all. Through the winter she has not had a season but has started having them again now spring is here. The trouble is she seems to either constantly either be coming into season, in season, or getting over one!! It is affecting her behaviour quite a lot now, she was always fine to hack out alone but now calls back to the others and is very eager to get home. I only have to pick the bridle up and she squeals!! Look at her and she squeals, don't look at her and she squeals, she does it a lot!!

Can anyone recommend a good supplement that actually works without costing an arm and a leg please? I don't mind the squealing I just want my old Liz back :-/

A friend has a mare who is very uncomfortable around seasons

She was already taking MagOx but she added in Brewers yeast, yea-sacc and linseed as regular feed (with Coolstance copra). She is much more comfortable and docile!

She also uses Agnus Castus around her season time.

All these ingrediants are available from Ebay or Metabolic Horse.

I was shocked to find Naf Oestress is simply Cal Mag and tasty herbs - nicely packaged up and charged double.

Cheeky *******s!

Thanks, I'll have a look at those supplements, the only problem will be come summer when she doesn't have any feed as they live out then ??

Her back was checked at the beginning of september and all we've done since then is one rodeo and hacking both of which haven't involved particularly hard work! I am waiting for the yard owner to book the dentist as we are going to get all horses done at the same time, saves a few pennies :-)

She is a bit slim at the moment so as I am bringing her back into proper work after the winter I have also put her on Calm and Condition instead of plain old pony nuts.

Been in same place as you tried everything!!!
Last week I had marble fitted after trying week on regumate to confirm it was hormonal. The difference is unreal. It cost me £86 and will stay in until the winter months when seasons stop. The cost included scan of her ovaries which wont be needed next year. All in all cheaper than supplements and my mare is much happier and has stopped trying to kill me:D

I've never heard of that! What is it?

Hi -marble suppresses the hormones tricking mare into thinking she is pregnant. No hormones oestress(i believe ) no seasons. The marble is placed into cervix when mare is in season as she is more receptive. She will have to be sedated for hour and kept in and scanned to make sure its in right place and hey presto all finished.
The marble is literally childs marble sterlised and placed by vet.You have probably seen cows being checked on tv to see if they are pregnant its basically same principle.Long gloves internal and rectal investigation :D
