I've noticed that a few people seem to be experiencing problems with mares displaying aggressive behaviour during pregnancy around the 5 month period maybe due to hormones. Has anyone found there mare difficult to ride around this stage of pregnancy? Temperamental & almost like a youngster?

YES! Bloss is 5 months (just over) and we can be quite happily ambling along out hacking when she will suddenly squeel, stick her head between her legs, and gallop off bronking

Its good to hear someone else is having this problem. I cant fault her behaviour generally but im trying to keep her in a little bit of light work as shes very sharp to ride at the best of times but ive been finding that she just doesnt seem to want to do anything. I cant call it naughty as such as she frequently has a good bronc at the best of times but things like:- refusing point blank to trot on and then bucking when you dig your heels in, dropping her shoulders in the school and racing around with her head in the air like a giaraffe. Shes generally a very well behaved horse and schools beautifully.
Just a thought for anyone else with this issue though! I've had her massaged using a technique called bowens therapy, I believe it works on the muscles & nerves and helps to detox the body, dont know that much about it but I think you could google it. She also had some behavioural massge done around her face using this method. Shes only had it done once so far but she seemed much more settled when I got back on her a few days later. I'm going to get another session booked very soon, so ill keep you posted.
