As some of you know i have battled with my hormonal mare for a while. She did so well over the winter, came off Regumate and was great.
However, the warm weather last week sent her crazy!! Biting, kicking and rearing!! Lovely!!! Have rung my vet and said get me Regumate quick, so hopefully she will be mrs cool again by the weekend.
Just wondering if any of you have the same problem and whether your mare's behaviour has changed already this year?

Fantasia - yes!!! I too own a stroppy mare who sounds just like yours. The verdict is still out on Oestress - she's been on it 3 weeks..... spring grass coming through (well apart from the last few days) has not helped either. Does Regumate get help with the behaviour you mention? Does it work that quickly? Thanks.

Regumate was like a god send for me last year! My horse was about to be pts, her behaviour was so bad. She is only 7 and i have had her all her life so you can imagine how bad it was if i was considering that kind of action.
Within 2 days of being on Regumate i barely recognised her!!! Completely chilled and doing everything i told her to do!! I can't recommend it highly enough!

My mare has been really excitable over past 2 months and has been in season twice already (at least that what it looks like - usual squirting and squealing - messy back legs etc). She reared at a SJ clinic (not normal behaviour) and napped on Sunday at dressage show.

I really want a dobbin so am keen to follow this thread on which supplements work and which ones don't. I am currently using Global Herbs Frisky Mare plus but not convinced. Do you think Regumate would help her ??? I have been recommended Oestress as well as Hormonise.

Did you ever think about putting her in foal?

I remember all your problems last year, but can't remember if this was ever an option for you to have considered??

Its certainly worth asking your vet about Regumate. I tried all the supplements first but to no avail, they just didn't touch her problems. My vet gave my girl a couple of scans and monitored what was going on with her ovaries, i have had no problem claiming it all back on insurance so i would say go for it, Regumate changed my girl's life completely!

I would love to put her in foal but to be honest can't afford another one and as im on a livery yard dont have the facilities. Maybe one day.................

Thanks, Fantasia - especially bit about insurance; will check mine when i get home - prob some small print about excluding moody mare probs! Did talk to vets about Regumate recently - he did suggest marbles being inserted as an alternative option.
Happy Bird - mare has been on Oestress for 3 weeks - at first she would not eat food containing it (strong smell, turmeric colour) It is £39 a tub, which at the amount i am feeding looks to last for approx 2 months. Will let you know if there has been a radical change at the end of the tub! (Or whether behaviour/vet visit dictates Regumate (and even more regualrt vet visits but happier horse and owner

.) Ho hum and i do this all for pleasure....
