Hi I've got a 16hh tb mare who is very adept at moonwalking backwards or dancing sideways if she doesn't want to go forward (on the ground or under saddle). When she is happy she is perfectly well behaved and responds to the aids but when she decides she doesn't want to go in a particular direction she just will not.

If you put the leg on she just goes backwards or sideways. I've tried turning her in small circles and then facing the way I want to go and asking forward again, sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried reversing her backwards in the direction I want to go in but then she goes forwards!!

I don't know what else to try under saddle. On the ground when she gets sticky I avoid all the reversing by moving her feet 2 steps to the left, 2 steps to the right and so on until we either get where we're going or she frees up and walks properly.

I can pretty much do anything with her on the ground to get over this stickiness, time consuming but no battles being fought and we get there in the end, under saddle though it's different. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
