after being trampled today turning out when one of the horses got stuck in the electric tape & having their hoof cm's from my face i urge everyone to wear a hat when handling horses in anyway .

i got off lucky today, fair few painful bruises & rope burns on my hand but it could of been so so much worse.

You wear a hat over your face? No wonder you ran into trouble....

.

Sorry, just messing. Glad you are okay and didn't suffer any more serious injuries - these horses are big beasties who can do a lot of damage.

I wouldn't have thought of that, of course have always read and heard about doing it, but sometimes I "mince" to and from the field in some stuff I'm planning to go out in, like sucha plonker! Thank you for that.

one of these things that you hear of happening to someone else but never think it would happen to you i guess.

kind of hit home when i was lying there with my horse doing some fantastic gymnastics while trying to get away from the tape

Once I was bringing mine in (two of them, one was five yrs old) and wearing all the kit for a nice pub lunch happening next, with wellies and long mac over;

I was just saying to them "Now no messing, come nicely and quickly I have to be somewhere!" etc. Fatal really, because next thing, my 5yr old knocked me flat on my face and as I looked up from the mud, I saw him jump CLEAN over me, longways of course, I think (not sure) he kneed me in the back of the shoulder too, but, bless him, he missed every inch of me jumping over me! I expect he wondered why I was laying in his way!

As the son of Wolfgang, I suppose he should be able to jump. Thank crikey he did or I may not be here now!

Kelly Marks, who knows a thing or two about horses, recommends wearing on at all times of handling, grooming, etc. Must admit I don't but it does seem a good idea. They are a lot bigger than us and wear metal shoes

Armhole, one of my youngsters did that as a foal at foot. leading her and her angelic mum through a gateway, foal suddenly decided to go from 0-60 while a pace behind me. flattened me, jumped over me, hoolied around very pleased with herself while i spat mud out and her mum peered down at me, with a very concerned look on her face!

I got flattened by a big spook last year and ended up with, amongst others, a bruise all the way down one temple and across the side of my skull. Not a naughty horse but literally shouldered me and ran.

I always wear my hat now too.

Problem is, when do you not wear a hat these days? Went to a wedding last week and overslept the next day. Just grabbed wellies & mac and shoved them on over my pjs to do early morning hay.

Rushed down the yard and slipped on a slimy surface that had been icy the night before and rained on that morning. Didn't notice anything except I was flat on my back and then my head hit the concrete hard.

Ouch! Oh well maybe it'll knock some sense in.

I'm getting too old for this lark.
