This weekend I am re-backing my horse after 9 months off work due to a back problem!

I'm excited at the thought of having him back under saddle but I must admit I'm a little anxious at the fact that the last thing he did when he was ridden last was bronc for England and throw my niece through a fence (who, I might add is a considerably better rider than I am!).
Good vibes needed! I was so worried I had to go out and purchase some Dubarry's to steady my nerves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou! I'm 98% sure he'll take it all in his stride (he's a real minimalist and doesn't believe in exerting any unnecessary energy!) but you never know do you...?!
Not sure if I should lay across him first like you would an unbroken horse or just get on and hope for the best - afterall he has had a rider on his back and done unaffiliated shows, XC schooling etc. but it was a while ago?!

Good luck! That'll be me in Feb too, that is, if all goes well. I personally think I'll just get on and act like nothing is different.
Fingers crossed for you, keep us updated!!

i'd lay across him and bash the saddle a few times. my friend recently got on her horse after a 6month break and as soon as her foot went to the off side the horse took off across the school, dropped her shoulder and dumped her.
least the ground is quite soft at the moment

good luck, sure your boy will be better behaved

That's what I thought - thought maybe he'd be more worried about me faffing about than just getting on like it's any other day?!
Good luck for Feb! Will keep you posted!

It is exciting - I'd only had him for 3 months before his problem became apparent so I have had this wonderful horse for a year and only ridden him for 3 months!
I might add he has grown SO much these last 9 months so I'll be like a pea on a mountain!!!!!!!!!!
