Morbid thought but what would happen to your horse if you died?

Strange I know but I was watching Horse & Country last night and the ILPH had a horse that had been left to them by it's owner as she died and her mother couldn't cope with it, sorry but it got me thinking....!
My dad helps me out, but I'm sure in the event of me popping my clogs before him he would not appreciate having to care for and sell my horse and his companion pony? What do you have to do to leave them to the ILPH (or other organisations) presumably you put it in your will, but do you have to tell them first, and do you have to leave cash as well to pay for their care? I've no idea but need to sort a will anyway (in case this trailer loading business gets the better of me!!) so might as well make provision for the hooligans while I'm at it

Oh Iv often thought of this, I would love her to stay where I keep her now, her baby boy is there with his owner too but I would hope everyone who knows me would make sure she is ok...its such a horrible thought I try not to think about it!

I presume that all charitys take them in. But they will probs put the out on a loan shceme. but atleast they are checked up monthly by the charity

My son would have him and my best friend said she would help him as he is only 14 at the moment. I have had to have this discussion and I feel happy with the arrangements I've made. You just never know what's around the corner.
 
Mine have been left to a very good friend and horsewoman in my will and this was made about 7 years ago wen I had two horses.... dont think she will appreciate having 7 dumped on her now tho!
 
Funnily enough was thinking about this the other day! TBH, not sure. I would like to think my parents would loan him out so he can go to a home which would make the most of him, but they can make sure all is ok and he is happy.

As I intend to outlive everyone I know, the ILPH scheme is ideal.
I woudl not wish my executors to have to deal with the horse, on top of everything else, so a % of my estate will go wiht the horses, as I could trust them to loan them to suitable home

There are detaisl fo thier scheme on their website.
It also has the advantage that you donlt have to keep chaing your will as freinds or relatives circumstances change, or they pop off before you.

There isn't anyone else in my family that has horses, so Milly would be sold.

She is nothing special, so has no real value, but she is a good safe girl.
 
If I die before my horse she will probably have been the cause of my sad demise (especially now that she's feeling the joys of spring)!
 
My horses are in my will! Ive left them to my hubby, said that if he didnt have time to care for them then i wanted them to go on loan to good caring homes.

If we both die then they go to my brother who assured me he will get them a loan home for life. They are only to be sold if money was an issue
 
I've written my will with a list of all my ponies and tack, and I have left each one to someone I know, with instructions to be loaned to good home if they don't want the pony, and for the older two pts if no-one suitable wants them. Also left some money for the executor to help sort it all.

Does that make me a bit paranoid or alot paranoid?
 
My in-laws would sell the youngsters, my old mare would be taken over by my best friend and hopefully my shetland would be sold on/loaned out by my friends at the yard who know him.
During the finalities my OH would pay for livery.
Thats shocking that I had an answer.

I have left a letter in a safety box with my bank, they charge £10 per year for the safeguard of my letter!!! I have named my closest friends to have my horses which I know they would absolutely love. Its worth doing to put your mind at rest (before your corpse!!!! sorry crap joke!!)
