So I found a driver for SoE, after my trainer decided to break her leg xc schooling. (Talk about inconsiderate!) We stabled the night before and one rider informed me the ground was like concrete and she wouldn't be running xc. Set off at 6.30 for an 8.12 dressage.. groan.

Dressage was a bit inattentive, he had a minor strop just before we went in but the trot work was quite pleasing, no idea what our score was though. I wasn't thrilled but wasn't cross either.

SJ, warmed up beautifully, although I have noticed over the past few weeks (or rather since the vet ok'ed us to continue after a virus..) he's not quite as keen (I'm talking very subtle though). Went in and I saw a deepish stride to fence 1, cue crashing and demolishing, ok so perhaps I let him bowl round the corner a bit. He then jumped 1 and 2 a little stiffly, I saw a perfect stride to 3, good rhythm and well balanced, and we, er, fell through it, pretty much onto the floor. Oh.. I decided to retire at that point, he's cut his hock and his knee and ripped his over reach boot to shreds and something definitely isn't right. It wasn't a big track and shouldn't have been a problem really. We're worried he hasn't recovered fully from the virus last month, but the signs 99% of the time are so subtle, he's so genuine and will happily still pull all the way round the xc. So as he has nothing prove and we've had a great season we've decided to call it quits for this year. Would've been better to end on a good note but not fair to continue as he's been ever so slightly under par for a few weeks. I'm kicking myself for not taking more note of any signs but he went so well at Spring Hill, (despite looking rubbish on paper!!) I thought he was back to normal.

Hope to be back fighting fit next season though and I'm hoping he won't be fazed by today. Thanks for reading and Ferd is now happily tucked up in bed with haylage, looking happy as larry to be on holiday!

I am so sorry that your last event did not work out for you, its such a shame.
I think I a nice holiday and he will be fighting fit for next season.

Are you still coming to watch at C Park?? Be good to meet you!!
I am going as the ''GROOM''

Thanks Molineux, I'm hopeful he just needs a holiday but will have the vet out next week to be sure nothing's been missed.

I will speak to G, but will definitely try to come and spectate at CP.

Excellent - hope to see you next weekend.x

Thanks guys. It's a shame we never got to do those novice runs inbetween the three int's as I really wanted to build his confidence whilst going up a grade. But we're definitely looking forward to next season, thank you for all the advice over the past few months! Back to uni soon so not so much HHO for me..

As the others have said I'm sure it was the right decision. Although the SJ was not the biggest SoE always causes a few problems SJ. IF he wasn't feeling 100% then the turn in to fence 3 was always going to be difficult. To be honest I didn't think that fence 1 was that nice as a first jump either as there wasn't a great approach to it.
It's been a difficult year with all of the cancellations and it's hard to get a rhythm going.
Roll on next year.
By the way I think that I was parked next to you but could be mistaken.

Thanks for the encouraging words Steve, yes I have to agree the approach to fence 1 and 3 weren't straightforward. I remember there was a man riding in the lorry next door, the kind soul that drove me (our builder!) was very interested in your lorry! It was a kind of light green and purple? I would've said hello if I'd realised, our lorry is a blue and grey cargo. I was milling about in the living feeling deflated for most of the time..

How did you get on?

Have you had his bloods checked again? It sounds like he could still be viral from what you're saying and I know they can look better and go downhill again, we normally have ours re-tested when they start hard work.
I hope you're both OK x
