I have recently taken on loan a lovely little Welsh Section A mare and she has been long reined successfully with her previous owner.

I would like to consider furthering her education and going the whole hog and breaking her to harness and driving her for pleasure.

I am a complete beginner so would like to ask what equipment I will need to get started. Also good tutorials for idiots recommended, either books, DVD's etc.

Any help or encouragement would be welcomed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of driving, it really is fun.

I would highly recommend you find an LHHI which you can locate through the BDS website, as a learner driver and a learner pony can easily equal disaster.

I book that is highly recommend is by Sally Walrond called "Breaking a Horse to Harness" about £20

The owner of the little grey Welshie my daughter used to ride had broken her for harness. Before she started with the pony she booked herself a series of driving lessons with an instructor at a riding centre that teaches driving, and found that very useful.

Hiya! I'm also planning on breaking my sect A to drive. I bought the book recommended by Donklet above and have found it really helpful. I'm going send him away for the most important bits but the book is great for all the prepatory work. It's really straightforward and is also a good introduction to all the gear etc.
