I'm still slightly confused over feeding, well what is best to feed.

Sox is currently on healthy hooves, alpha beet, pink powder senior and vegetable oil. However, I'm changing him over to Spillers conditioning fibre tomorrow (introduced gradually of course). The nutritionist has put on his 'board' spillers hi fibre cubes also, now he needs to put weight and condition on - so would these be best or something else (doesn't have to be Spillers)

I'm going to take him off the pink powder senior and put him on micronized linseed from tomorrow to.

He also gets ad lib hay, and is out from 6am until 7pm every day

Not expert on weight gain feeds but just wondering about why you would stop the pink powder as part of this switch? Wouldn't he still benefit from that (ESP during period of change of feed?)

I wouldn't be taking him off the pink powder as this will be balancing his feed, making sure he gets all the correct vits/mins. If you did take him off this I would add something like 365 Complete.

Is the reason for changing food due to wanting more weight on him?
If it was me personally I would stick with what I was feeding and if wanting to add micronised linseed then add it at weight gain levels. I was told this can be up to 100g per kg of weight of the horse. I have also had the guide of 100g for a pony and 200g for a horse built up slowly obviously. You may find that this is enough extra oil and protein to help.

He needs more weight and condition really

It was the nutritionist and vets that suggested changing his feed as his current feed has had no effect on him.

He is 14.1 so roughly how many mugs a day should he be having? He has two feeds a day

He has had lami a few times in the past so his feeds will soon be cut down

If he were mine I'd probably cut out the healthy hooves as I doubt that's doing much, keep him on the pink powder and alpha beet and swop the oil for micronised linseed, which IMO is more effective. Make sure he has access to plenty of hay and is working correctly/appropriately to build up some muscle. Spring is just around the corner and he's better to be on the slim side now - especially if he's had lami in the past. Do you have any pics of his current condition? Might help people to give you some better advice. :)

That he's laminitis prone is probably why the spillers person has been cautious and recommended the high fibre cubes. If he's on higher energy cubes when the grass comes through he could get laminitis.

My mug full weighs around 100g of micronised linseed and my mare has 1in each feed. Mugs obviously old different amounts though. I agree the healthy hooves won't be doing much, reading its analysis It comes across as more suited to a good doer or pony on a diet. It does say it has all the vits and mins needed if fed at recommended level so if your also feeding pink powder at recommended level you could be going over the amounts on some bits and minerals. Linseed is said to be safe for laminitis to help with condition without the sugar and starch.
Introduce it gradually and see how much seems to be having the desired effect for him. Remember though spring is around the corner and the grass will be coming trough but like I said the linseed won't add to the sugar content of the grass at least.
