My horse has also recently stopped eating his hay although he can eat a big bucket of ready grass in 10 mins and has started eating his bed instead. I thought he was not eating the hay as he prefers the readigrass so have stopped giving it to him. I have tried feeding it on the floor (& with bits of apple mixed it) in a haynet but every morning at leat half left.

This time of year they will often eat hay as its a novelty, then go off it in protest at not having lush grass.

You can either persevere or get them addicted to haylage.

Haven't tried the applejuice thing, but you can also pour on liquid molasses - but only if yours doesn't go nutty with sugar.

The horses at my yard are not really interested in hay at the moment.....we just put it down to the fact the autumn grass came through almost as lush as the spring grass after a hot july, wet august and warm september.
