My little mare has Crepitis- I have been told it does not effect her in any way and is just an unpleasant noise that will decease as she get fitter. Is this true? She is on trial for 3 months before purchase so just wanted to check everything about her.

I think it is just air under the skin. I had a horse get kicked on the head and he had it, sounded like rice crispies when you pressed it but he was absolutely fine it just gradually disappeared.

Yes, it is that, but hers is in her stifles- so crackles as she walks- but after 10/15 min of work it stops - until next time. Just want to make sure there are no other effects.

it is often associated with arthritis changes but also occurs commonly with slight muscle imbalance. there are many theories but none that really explain why it happens in some.
