I've just had a phone call from the yard - Dolly and Apollo are playing in the field together!!! I'm over the moon they seem to be getting on. She seems to want to protect him from the other horses in the adjacent field, bless her! Her milk seems to have dried up - I suspect because of the stress of moving. We hope it will come back but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't.

I was supposed to go into work today, but I've been a busy bee all morning. I've contacted the local paper about what happened with the livery yard and they sound quite keen on running the story. They're coming down to get some pictures today. I'm going back to the yard now so I should be able to post some pictures tonight.

I'm also going to see a lady who was in the same position as us this time last year. She's going to give us some advice and tell us about her experience. Oh, and I'll go and buy my sister a treat for lunch, seeing as she's done the night shift! Suzy's ashes are coming today. I'm not sure what we will do with them yet, but there's plenty of time to decide.

Thanks for the update Anne, I can now go out and get some work done on the yard

Fab news that Dolly is playing with little man - are you sure you will let MM have her back?

Good for you re newspaper reporter - just be careful not to libel yourself (as much as you want to tell them how awful the YO is).

Wish you were nearer to me - would love to help.

Hx

Thanks! I didn't say anything defamatory. I would honestly be happy if they just said - "orphan foal evicted from livery yard". Now that is indisputable. I'm not interested in he said she said stuff, and I'm quite sure they wouldn't be either! Someone on the yard has already handed their notice in, specifically because of what has happened to us.

Sounds like people have started voting with their feet already. I really believe that the YOs priority should be PR and fostering a sense of goodwill within their business. Ah well, we cant all have skills with people can we

i am really, really glad that Dolly and Apollo are settling in together. I'm very unimpressed by your YO's behaviour - whatever you may or may not have done, you'd think a YO would put the welfare of the horse first and foremost (and maybe ask you to leave after things are less fraught?!)

Hmm, you would think so wouldn't you. They told my sister she had been given her months notice to leave, on the day Apollo was born and Suzy was in hospital having an oxytocin drip to get her to pass the afterbirth. Why?? Because she wouldn't get out of the way while they took a photo of him.

The thing that disgusts me the most is that when the cremation people came to take my pony away, apparently they stood laughing as they tried to drag her body out to the van. I arrived about 20 minutes after this happened, and all I can say is I'm glad I wasn't there because I don't know if I could have controlled myself. These people are inhuman and these 2 things are just a taster of all that has gone on.

I'm sorry I didn't want to get into this, but understandably you are all curious.

What horrible people - i'd have at least whacked them with a spade or something!!

Have i shown you this:

Not sure how common/successful/expensive it is, but if she lets him suckle and the milk doesnt come back, it might be worth considering??

Can you take lots of pics for us??!

And mum wants to know if we can come & see them again soon and watch them together? Mo, Molly & Feather havent even noticed Doll has gone! They're such cows! Glad she's finally got someone who'll play with her!!

Speak to you later.

Wow, I feel like I'm at work reading that!! Really interesting, perhaps we could speak to vets later in the week? You're all welcome to come down, maybe tomorrow? I'm going now so hopefully I can get down there before it starts to rain and we have to bring them in. Will grab my camera. I can't believe they've forgotten Dolly! xx

I know - She was just never 'cool' enough to be in their gang! She was too small and too immature for them! They're a bunch of snobs!

Took this pic yesterday. Hopefully you & the cameraman will get better ones tonight!

See you later.

I truly hope and pray these people get what is coming to them.
From what you have said on here about the way you have been treated it has been disgusting.
To laugh at your dead pony like that is inexcusable to say the least.
I'm glad for you that you were not there to witness it though ( and I mean that in a nice way btw).
I'm also glad to read that you have decided to take the matter further and go to the press.
They would not risk printing anything that was libellous so you have no worries there.
The only time I had to make that decision as a journalist was when the paper very kindly gave my home number to someone wanting a story published. It was a clear case of an owner having a grievance about a trainer and a horse ( not their horse btw) failing a dope test. His comments were defamatory imo. My contact within the Jockey Club emailed me the report on the findings of the case and the trainer was not convicted of anything as it could not be proved how the banned substance came to be in the horse. Because of the JC's findings and the angry manner of the person that called me I told the paper I would not be doing the story and explained my reasons why. I didn't want to held accountable and neither did the paper.
As the paper is going with your story and it will be published there are no fears of anything being defamatory because from what I can gather from reading your posts there have been witnesses to their conduct to you.
I truly hope the yard owner and all those concerned get their come uppance!

On a much happier note though I am so pleased to hear of the bond forming between little Apollo and Dolly and I hope that her milk supply does come back. But even if it doesn't the little lad will do fine on supplements now he has an equine foster mum so he can be a little foal again.
I am so happy for you, I really am

The paper are running the story - I will scan the article in when it gets printed. I haven't said anything personal. I just think it's a perfect way of alerting the local horse community to what kind of yard it is. The people that have already left the yard in the past will no doubt still be surprised by how far they have gone this time. But they have shot themselves in the foot - they've really taken the proverbial biscuit. I've spoken to a fellow evictee this evening and she is made up with what I've done. I hope they realise they can't go round treating people like dirt because one day someone will fight back.

Good for you Anakin as I think the way this yard has treated you is appalling! I would use stronger words as I feel so angry and hurt for you but I won't with it being a public forum.
I always say to use the press for your own benefit and the benefit of others.
In your case it is very much both and I'm glad that your old yard is going to be in the public eye for what is disgraceful behaviour.
I'm glad you decided to fight back and I think you're being very brave in doing so especially with all the emotional turmoil of your deceased mare and orphan foal.
The best news is that you are out of that horrid place and your foal seems to be doing well with his foster mum.
But the icing on the cake imho would be the naming and shaming of your old yard and their appalling conduct.
Please keep us updated on your story if you can and even more so little Apollo x I for one think he is a little sweetheart and he obviously has an owner who loves him to bits.
Sorry getting a tad emotional ( forgive me ) I cried when I first read your story but cried again when I heard how well he was doing.
I hope and pray this continues x
sending all my best wishes
Caroline x
