I'm looking for a no bute supplement to give my young arthritic mare, i have tried Equine America Buteless which seemed to have no effect.
Alpha bute and No bute have been recommended to me but I have also heard that Devils Claw can be just as bad for horses as bute itself. Is this true?

Also any experiences of Boswellia for horses?
Any other recommendations would be great, i know there will be trial and error but it's worth a go.

I give my elderly horse linseed daily as it is meant to act as an anti-inflamitory

The results of a recent research trial has shown that there are two compounds in Brocoli which slow down arthritis in human beings.

Interesting... she would definitely eat it just not sure about every day!

Boswellia

Seconded! Brilliant stuff. We have recently starting combining it with turmeric as well because I keep reading in various places that's a good anti inflammatory too (and to keep the cost down a bit) and since we've started doing that our lass is pinging round, absolutely full of it.

I use NatureBute - Boswellia. Probably quite an expensive way of doing it, but I think it works really well. My horse has bad feet (well, not bad feet but the bones are at the wrong angle - so he wears heel pads on all four). He is completely sound with the pads and boswellia.

Friend of mine put her boy on Progressive Earth's 'herbs4mobilty' three months ago and can't believe the change in him. :)

Thats interesting. I put my boy on this 3 weeks ago after he had been diagnosed with bilateral hock arthritis. He seems to be doing well on it but its nice to hear other people have had positive results using it.

Alpha Bute is pretty good, but it reeks! So some horses won't eat it. Dodson and horrell do mobility I think it's called which is keeping the 22 year old out on loan happy doing xc. Turmeric is really good stuff and also helps with digestion. I don't think you can beat glucosamine and omega 3s though. Devil's claw is very effective, but long term use can cause stomach ulcers. At least that's what's been found with humans. I knew a very arthritic horse that was put on cortaflex and the change was amazing. Owner stopped giving it for a month though and horse seemed a lot worse. Msm is supposed to help as well. Hope you find something :)
