Pure profiteering, don't use him at all. When the fuel dispute was on a few years ago there was a garage in Birmingham that profiteered & put its prices up massively due to the shortage. When the dispute was over people boycotted his garage & he went out of business. Hopefully the same will happen with this seller & he's left with loads of unsold hay.
Our farmer (Hertfordshire) has told us his round bale hay will be £60 this winter! Last year it started at £15 by Christmas was £25 and by March was £38.50!
We had 4 bales a week from Oct-March last year
I have stocked the fields up with wrapped haylage this year!!!! His fault for losing a customer!!!!
My farrier said one of his clients has just paid £7.50 a small bale off the field we are in the Thames Valley. my large bale supplier (who charged me just £1 more than last year) said he thinks the large bales will be easily £45 mid winter- and promptly sold his entire remaining stock to Devon.. my haylage supplier kept his price the same as last year but has now virtually sold out after a visit from a lowloader from Kent! Local feed place has nearly sold out of large bale haylage at £35 a bale and has no idea how much new stock will be at present.
I was a bit peed off at getting large bales rather than small at first but at least large bales are much harder to steal
