It's time for my little 3.5t to go for its first MOT since I've had it. I've never owned pony transport before, and am still fairly new to vehicle ownership in the UK, so I need some advice! I was intending to take it for a service first, to see if anything might get flagged up in the MOT that I can have fixed first, and then to get the MOT done. Does this sound like a good plan? Is there are normal way of going about this? How do people find a good garage for vans?

And advice would be very welcome!

I think - and easier said than done - you need to find a mechanic or garage that you can have confidence in and then they could either look round it in a sort of pre MOT and do anything needed and then service it either before or after the MOT. Really up to you. Perhaps ask around other people with similar sized lorries as generally best way to find a good mechanic is by word of mouth.

I would go by word of mouth as well. However it is worth being aware that not all mot garages can do vans/horseboxes. They have to have a building with a high enough headroom when the vehicle is up on the platform and in the air.
