I am researching chaff at the moment as want to change from what I am currently using.

I liked the look of Dengie Good Doer but looking at the ingredient list it lists mould inhibitor as third on the list, which doesn't sound good to me but having googled MI I can't find anything about it being a problem, so wondered if people don't worry about it or if they avoid it in their horses feed

I think it is in most chaffs and don't think it's bad, in fact quite the opposite as it helps prevents mould from growing :)

I have always fed Dengie and never had a problem.

it could be because straw is sprayed against mould in the growing process, one reason i'm not too keen on feeding straw unless its bio

Not an ideal thing. Was told that it can cause Gastric Ulcers but if we studied all feeds then we probably wouldnt feed half of the things we do.

My horses have always been fine on it as have others that I know.

If you wanted to avoid all Mould inhibitors then the chaffs I know of which are free from them are:

Dengie Molasses free
Topchop alfa and Lite
Baileys Alfalfa blend

and possibly Readigrass and Graze on but I'm not 100% on that.

i guess it is a good thing if you want the chaff to last longer without going mouldy, I am sure lots of things we eat this in to, to preserve food or make it last longer.

without knowing what the mould inhibitor is made of it is hard to know what effect it will have long term. maybe if you are worried ask dengie what mould inhibitor is made out.

I feed my pony good doer and the mould inhibitor does not put me off. sometimes natural things are worse than chemical thing.
