Have been travelling and got home to find my saddle and bridle covered in green mould. I know from experience that if you just wipe it off it tends to come back, so does anyone know of any product that will kill it? Thanks :)

My unused saddle used to always get mouldy! I just gave it a good wipe with a sponge with warm water then used the horsemans one step saddle soap everyday for about a week and its never come back! Oh and try to keep a sallde cover on it to keep it warm and the mould wont be able to grow on it :D

Thanks for that. It DID have a saddle cover on though!! AND I cleaned it before I went away. Looks like cheese now!! LOL

milton, the stuff you do babies bottles with to sterilize them.
give it a wipe over with a solution of that then when it has dried clean as you usually do.
i only use Koachaline if i am storing the leather (then wrap it in newspaper)

Quite a lot of tack cleaning preparations have anti-mildew ingredients now, that won't compromise your leather like bleach or household cleaners and can be left on the leather. It's worth checking whatever your local saddler stocks to see if they have something along this line.

Take your tack home or keep in the passenger seat well to let it dry out, it must be damp to encourage moulds, clean tack once a week but try the ready made tack cleaner.
If your saddle cover is contaminated, wash it, but I just stick my numnah on upside down, and never have any problem. does the tack room have any ventilation or heating?
