Gah, Patches body clock must be so blooming accurate. She started moulting on December 24th last year, just three days after the shortest day. She's now moulting by the handful just a week or so past the longest day.

Can't believe it.

Anyone else's horse moulting already?

Confused, mine has a full summer coat and no sign of moulting or winter coat growing?

I think some people (not you) may have been confused and think I mean Patches is getting her summer coat.

What I mean is that Patches has started shedding her summer coat in preparation for her winter coat already.

Sorry IO missunderstood!

No she has had lovely summer coat for a fair time now, and luckily no sign of winter "fluff" coming along!

Yup, Asti is the same, due to fog, torrential rain and more fog and torrential rain, not only were we having problems with her not coming into season, she's started to moult and fluff up a bit!

From shiny smooth show pony to fluffball one year to the next is a huuuuuge change!

So if the summer reappears, do we think they'll get their summer coats back and just moult again?

I don't think so personally.

I've always believed the train of thought that the change of coats are governed the day light hours. I feel Patches is very astute to notice such a minimal difference! Clever pony!
