My old pony was diagnosed with Cushings in May this year. He moulted in patches and was left with hair over his belly, face and neck 4inches long.(he looked a bit like an orangutang!) I tiedied him up with scissors. Now he has suddenly started to shed his summer coat in large amounts and he now has some hairless patches. Has anyone else expierenced this? I didn't expect him to do this in view of his condition. He isn't on any medication because he wont take it.

My veteran show cob was diagnosed with cushings in the beginning of July. To be honest we weren't surprised at the confirmation as he'd been showing the signs, specifically exactly as you describe with patchy moulting and random long patches, and he had a lengthy bout of lami earlier this year despite really careful management, which was all the more surprising as he's never been remotely laminitic before.

I've used a herbal company called EquiNatural for my other horse's arthritis and had excellent results from one of their blends, so I contacted them, then wierdly I was recommended their cushings blend as well from a friend who'd used it. They were really helpful, and the difference has been unbelievable - we went from one minute seriously thinking we may lose him to what has seemed like a complete recovery. Amazing, and I can't recommend it highly enough. You can find them here http://equinatural.co.uk/ and I'd definitely suggest a look.

Thanks for that advice I have made contact and am waiting for a delivery of their Cushings mix. I am getting very worried about our pony he is getting thin and loosing his coat in the same places that he couldn't in spring. He is now down to bare skin in many places. Also drinking and very hungry. I am having to rug him at night.
