Drove to the David Broome Centre yesterday for Mount Ballan. Walked the course first of all as had time impressions to me is that it was cleverly designed as looked straightforward but it shared most of the same fences as the novice so was well up to height and had some clever lines that needed riding.
Did up the horse for dressage and the prat stood on his other front shoe and pulled it cleanly off. Now I remember why he does not have 2 studs in! So once ready had to get it put back on.
Warmed up for dressage and it was held on a surface in the main arena. My horses eyes were on stalks as so much to spook at. He eventually settled and did for me a nice test I guessed 38 and it came out at 40. Judge was pretty harsh in the section as most people in 35+.
SJ is held in the main grass arena and again my horse was not concentrating and spooking at all the ditches held for the jumping derbies in the ground and stopped at first fence. Well that woke him up and after that jumped a nice round with an unlucky 2 down another where he was too busy looking at banners. He is such a spooky sod at best of times.
XC he was really up for it and jogging around warm up so now he really has got the idea of what he needs to do! He jumped well and a few we crawled over but he jumped clear so was delighted. Managed to pick up 0.8 of a time fault but we did trot over the skinnys so can forgive myself for that.
Overall we came half way but 9 horses were eliminated on xc and 7 horses had xc faults so it has made me even more pleased as the winter will be spent doing BSJA and dressage which at the moment we are crap at!

Aww well done lec

I know my old trainer used to take the trip to MB every year because she liked the facilities. Dressage on a surface!! fantastic

I have never been before incredible place - I have never seen so many arenas! My OH became obsessed with counting all the stables and reckoned there were about 450 there. It must be chaos when there is big SJ comps on. Some of it was a bit shabby but the grass arenas were lovely. I saw DB and his son was driving a lovely little welsh pony practicing his dressage it was really interesting to watch especially it extend as only contact you have is on mouth and with voice. Bill Levett won my section and Althea Bleekman 2nd. My god that girl is an incredible rider and only 14. Seriously she is one to watch if she can do as well on horses as she is doing on ponies.

Cool, I think I am going over there next year to watch YO's son compete.

Funny you should say about Althea, I think I read something about her not so long ago - another Kitty, Laura and Georgie methinks

Just like SJing we have a good croup of riders coming through - thank god!

I think Althea was in H&H last week and week before, once for winning a HOYs qualifier newcommers or fox cant remember which, and again as a rider profile in the young rider section!

Well done sounds brilliant XC with that many getting eliminated

When are you tacking your next event CG? I am down for Monmouth next week.

Well what a good result as I see the PN XC was causing a lot of problems. Don't worry about the SJing a lot of horses don't take to that arena.

Good luck at Monmouth - another event I really like although very different to Mount Ballen.

Well Done Lec!!

Sounds like he is really getting the hang of this 'eventing malarky'!!
Isnt his spookyness just because hes a baby still? My pony mare only fully grew up when he was 7. Hes still really young and big horses tend to take longer to mature.

Althea is a fantastic rider and the ponies she has are top class. Nightgirl was a dressage pony last year but her owner decided she would suit the eventing scene better, turns out she loves it!!
If you think Althea is good wait till her younger sisters start BE!! They do all the open unaff ODEs and the youngest is tiny!!

Well done, you should got to Wales next weekend its the Derby show, 1m+ classes in the main arena.

There are about 500 permanent stables but at the big show they usually have another 1000 temporary stables as well.

Well done!

I did the Pre-Novice there a few years ago. The dressage surface sounds a big improvement on what was there previously.

Especially well done on the show jumping. Their jumping rings are pretty intimidating when you're not used to them.

Onwards and upwards
