Mountain Horse body guard jacket and Pro Tector hat

I'm on a serious safety spree!

Has anyone tried/have any thoughts on the Mountain Horse body guard jacket

or the Pro Tector hat?

Love the jacket!!!!!!! When hit the ground the other week, despite my head being less than good (but still alive, so can't really complain lol), I didn't have a bruise or a batter on my body

When I can think straight again I'll be ordering a Pro Tector hat, probably two as one for daughter as well

What are these? I am so behind on safety stuff!! I have a second hand bp which needs cutting to fit (I only use it for XC- haven't hacked/ SJed/ Dressaged in a bp since I was 10)...

Thanks MrsM! I saw your post a few days ago about buying a Pro Tector which is what spurred me to look into it! Then someone else posted about the jacket as well, so I will 'armour' myself accordingly!

I have the jacket its great very comfy. Maybe worth you trying one on if you are ordering of line as comes up largish. Not as hot as wearing a BP so you will wear it for longer into the summer than you may think

Anyone know why the Pro tector hat is so expensive?

Obviously development costs are high, but I thought that the materials are fairly ubiquitous.....is it that price because they know people will pay a premium for safety?

Excuse my ignorance if I'm missing something obvious!

Good god that hat's expensive!! You could get a Gatehouse HS1 which is also SNELL approved (and PAS015 etc) at half the price.

I like my body guard jacket as far as it goes BUT the zip broke after one winter's wear, so I can only fasten it with the studs now, so not sure if it would be as effective if I dropped off. And I cannot for the life of me understand why Mountain Horse make super hi-viz jackets but only do the bodyguard in dark blue.

I have the bodyguard jacket and love it, its to give me confidence handling my big mare but I also ride her in it I find it extremely comfortable. Really pleased with it.

That's good to know! Had a quick look and the Gatehouse skullcap is SNEL 2001, but not the velvet hat, so have to decide over the looks!

That is not so good! Did you speak with Mountain Horse/the retailer about it?

I also thought the dark colour was an odd choice, but I have hi-viz stuff to go over the top so it's manageable.

Hmmn I've been thinking if I keep up this riding lark I ought to get a BP. I wonder if my old motorcycle jacket with Kevlar pads still fits...? Looks just like the MH jacket.

I am looking for new hat but had my eyes on the Charles Owne AYR 8. i see this doesnt have SNEL but does have GPr somehting. whats the difference. i need a hat to do dressage in but also x-country and jumping/eventing for my baby next year.
