Bought a pair earlier this year, was so pleased to find boots that went round my 'round' legs.
They had to stretch a bit at the elastic and the elastic came unstitched. I was going to try to mend them but took them back to retailer 'Townsfield saddlery' who were very good and said they would send them back under warrenty as they shouldn't have gone like that.
Waited a couple of weeks ,borrowed boots, just wore joddy boots, wore my old boots with a broken zip and gaiters over them ,phoned shop and they said they were being replaced with new ones. They have now come in BUT they have changed the design, now they use one piece of elastic instead of three although it still looks the same from the outside with 3 slits.Trouble is these don't do up. They seem to have narrowed the ankle and I broke mine and it is quite swollen still and the long seem to be longer so would cut me under my knee if I could do them up!
I am going back to ask to try the short/wide ones to see if they will fit/
Anyone know of any really wide long black boots as if they don't do up they say I will have to have my money back[wouldn't mind the old boots back and mend them myself but they have gone back

Really sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations. I too have 'round' calves so I know where you are coming from.
If you can't sort out some boots, then the English Gaiter company do some extremely smart posh gaiters which go up to an 18.5" calf and when teamed with smart short boots look the biz! I wear mine with my Ariat Devon Pro's and they look very smart and very 'long boot' like!
