Hello,

I have some Mountain Horse High Rider II long boots with a zip up the back, which I am generally very pleased with. However, I am worried about the hardiness of the zip as it seems to be separating slightly (teeth) at the bottom near the heel area. Only worn boots about 6 times and they have been well looked after and kept with boot trees.

I have read quite a few comments on here about zips breaking on these boots. If you have experienced faulty zips whereabouts was the problem? Is it around the heel/ankle area, or higher. Think I might be needing a new zip soon. Just interested.

Thank you.

Yup! I have some that need a replacement zip: I wore them for about 6 months more or less daily for riding only, but one zip went (separated) first at the heel, then upwards.

I'd love to know where people have gone to get replacement zips fitted if you get any replies to that effect!

I haven't experienced any manufacturing problems with mine - probably because I've only worn them a few times as I found them too rigid and uncomfortable:(

OH has these boots and he's got exactly the same problem. The teeth of the zip have come apart near the heel :( He's not had the boots long and keeps boot trees in them so it's nothing he's done to cause the problem.

I havent had a problem with both pairs of MH richmond hoghs. First pair died after 3 yrs, 2nd pair on their 2nd year. I wear them daily to ride but muck out etc in wellies

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Doesn't look too good for my boots then. Disappointed.

Thought people only had problems with the zips because of rough treatment/wrong size and/or bad storage. My last pair of cheapy leather boots are over 6 years old and no problem with the zips at all. Just wanted a new pair which fitted better at the top of the leg.

Thanks again.

(PS Someone did post on here about motorcycling shops offering good robust zip replacements)

I have the same problem on two pairs, both pairs - the right boot zips have gone so I can't even wear one boot from each pair :(

I did wear them everyday for a couple of years before they broke though.

I have had 3 pairs if Mountain Horse boots... loved them for the comfort and style but sadly all 3 pairs went at the bottom...

I had 1 pair of High Riders and 2 Pairs of High Rider Sportive. I took all 3 back to the well known shop where I bought them from and they have replaced them every time and sent the damaged pairs back to Mountain Horse... I was quite impressed with them :)

I think Mountain Horse need to understand that a heavy duty zip is required...

I dunno if they are the same type, but I have some old Mountain horse boots, and I had the same issue after a year or so of very regular wear (then just let them in the porch).

I just took it to timpsons (the key/shoe place) and they replaced the zip, cost bout £20/30 because of the zip length, but nothing compared to the price of a new pair of boots, Gotta take the other one now.
