Mounting aids/gadgets

Does anyone use one? I'm thinking it could be a useful thing to carry with me for those occasions when I have to dismount to deal with tricky gates, or to lead my mare when I have to. She's not that tall, but I could do with a little something to make it easier.

I've seen them but wondered if they might be a bit TOO long, making it more of a haul up. Can they be shorted at all, so you have just a few inches extra?

There are lots of different sorts. I think the smartrider escape stirrups are the shortest I've seen advertised - they give you less than a stirrup irons depth. Never seen them in the flesh though!

That's not too much of a problem as I have an Endurance saddle cloth with quite roomy pockets in it. One of my "Best Buys".

The endurance saddlepad with pockets mean you can take everything, maps, Mars bars, soft drinks!, wire cutters,
hoofpick and all sorts.

I have one but find it's then too high a climb up. I've seen Shires do an extending stirrup, anyone tried these out - I really only need a couple of inches help.

I have one of these I got from another mule owner in the States...not much good on soft ground though
