Mouth Opening

Took Rosie out today hacking and she was great, working fairly well and not going like a giraffe, mainly walked , trotted in one place, on the way home which was on a road she was flexing at the poll and opening her mouth wide (almost as if trying to spit the bit out) I didn't have a tight rein, I pushed her on, gave her more rein yet she still was doing it.. and did it for about 15 mins on and off, she is ridden in a loose ring french link snaffle, cavesson noseband and standing martingale, her teeth were done a fortnight ago and back was done last week ( a follow up appointment to 3 weeks ago) Any ideas why she was doing it or how to stop it?

My TB does this when he salivates and it tickles his chin! Doesn't mean any harm by it and doesn't use it to evade the bit so I just ignore it.

Maybe you should look at the bit? something is causing some discomfort, and forcing the mouth shut will only aggrevate such things, i'd urge most people to find out whats really wrong with the horse, spend time looking, find out why the horse is doing it, then work out a solution

I have checked the bit and her mouth seems fine, it was only today she was doing it

It sounds alot like what happened to me on one of my youngsters, I was riding along happy as u like, then he started opening his mouth and bobbing his head, I got of immediatley and was greated by a bloody molar landing at my feet, quite a shock!!! have you looked all the way back to the last? If she continues to do it, i'd get a qualified equine dentist to have a look, they know more about teeth than vets

Could she have got or be trying to get her tongue over the bit? My boy has an annoying habit off drawing back his tongue but once got his tongue over the bit, went very light in the contact, mouth wide open but felt amazing

Much better to try to find the cause than simply slap a 'gadget' on
