Mouth Ulcer - Tongue

My dutch warmblood seems to have got an ulcer right in the middle of his tongue its about the size of a penny with some further cracking down his tongue. Has anyone got any suggestions a) what might have caused it and b) what to treat it with? I suspect he has eaten something which has caused it, but not sure what. Suggestion for treatment has been salt water wash and bonjela.

has he got butter cups or clover in his field? yes go with the salt water and bonjela for a couple of days if no better or gets worse get the vet!

Do you have a good EDT who could have a look?

Mine was very helpful when one of my horses once got a sore in his mouth.
