mouthing advice

im starting to bit my 3 year old gelding soon and would like some advice/ step guide. ive heard lots of different ways inc cross tyeing but would like your ideas and advice please. many thanks
 
We just use a bridle (minus the noseband) and a flexible rubber mullen mouth. Most youngsters love grabbing things so it is generally no problem to get them to take the bit (make sure you leave the cheek pieces long enough so you don't pull his lips back too far putting the bridle on). Leave the cheek pieces on the long side. He'll play with the bit with his tongue, probably try to push it out, putting his tongue under and over it. He'll soon work out that the most comfortable place is to keep his tongue underneath.
