Ok, I'm having a bit of a brain block over something really simple! What way does the mouthing bit go into a horses mouth? The one I have has ridges on one side and not on the other and keys in the middle. Does the ridge side go in first or the side with out.

I dont use a mouthing bit as it can make a young horse very fussy and they are rather unforgiving but if you do want to use one the smooth side should be downwards against the lower bars of the mouth, so smooth side in first.

Thanks, it's what he has been used too so that's why I'm carrying it on, once mouthed I will move onto a bit with full cheeks.
