So ok, youngsters are mouthy. But I swear, i have the WORST! I cannot get the bridle on without him eating the throat lash, the cheek pieces or whatever makes contact with his face first! For goodness sake! How long is this going to go on for. He is nearly 5 and yes a lot is happening in his mouth but I swear he is the worst i have had! His teeth are checked all the time, (a good friend is a a brill equine dentist) and all is how it should be. Anyone else got a seriously "mouthy" horse? xx

My 4 year old is terrible! Headcollar, bridle, leadrope, lunge line, fence of the arena - all very tasty! I go to put his bridle on and before I know it he has it in his mouth, luckily its just a cheap one!

Hate to tell you but my 15 year old is still like this, and I've had him for 11 years... When he can't get headcollar/bridle/leadrope it's me he reaches for to chew on

It's a nightmare when I am in a rush as he just grabs the noseband of a headcollar so I can't get it on (and he's 17.2hh!)

My 4 y o is a pain too. Everything goes in his mouth, rugs, headcolars, people! My hair!! It drives me wild, I have resorted to poking his cheeks and this has slowed him down but he is teething again so is building up to really annoying again.

F is 8 and still chews (or tries to) his reins, bridle, headcollar, leadrope, rugs, bibs, buckets, the elasticated safety tie-up, the door hook, the emergency release for the lorry partition, his boots, his travel boots, his girth, and Merli's rug.

Things he would not put in his mouth if you begged him to include anything that comes with the tag "horse toy", lick-its and stuff he has already trashed and I have given up on and left in his stable..

Yep Bobby-Fell is very mouthy. I've been trying to be firm as it is turning into nipping when I'm working him in-hand. I think he sees my hand (and sleeve - he loves velcro) hovering just under his nose when I'm leading him and he can't resist! He also loves faces and will stick his nose right into your face. Last weekend he nearly throttled me as he leaned over the stable door and grabbed my coat collar! He's only 4 and a half though and I've only had him 2 weeks so I've now decided that nice sympathetic mummy is over and tough love mummy will have to appear to be firm about the nibbling!

There is only one thing worse than a mouthy youngster and that is four mouthy youngsters who are all teething. collectively they manage to trash most everything including me most days. It is so tedious, chew the headcollar rope, chew the headcollar, chew the rug, best of all chew the rug off someone else, chew buckets (beware I have had feed buckets LAUNCHED over stable doors as the little darlings have a bit of craic) chew elastic surcingle and spin it around, chew reins, stirrup leathers, chew various bits of me, grab clothing, nibble hair. Launch bite attack on various half brothers and sisters who may be passing by your stable who then launch bite attack back (unluckily I caught a nasty bite this week ouch!). Its bedlam sometimes and certainly quite normal for young horses.

So saying my daughter's horse who we have had for 8 years gives me the foulest nips on the back of my hand when he is bored usually when I am holding him at a show ringside or even if Im standing next to him. The little B uses stealth mode and I never see it coming.!!!

I used a dog's rubber bone once to see if it would keep one of them occupied and it just got flung out over the door!.
