Hello, I am in need of a new drssage saddle and my saddler asked if I have a preference for a movable knee block or a surface mounted kneeblock and I have no idea if I have one.
Been years since I had a dressage saddle and can't remember.
So anyone got any advise or views on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks.

I prefer the top mounted one as it has a more direct feel but it does have to be in the right place for your leg. i do prefer monoflaps anyway as there is a closer feel to the horse

I covet a surface mounted block dressage saddle after riding in a Fairfax monoflap a few months ago. I've got a moveable block saddle now but it just doesn't feel 'right' to me.

Currently saving up for one - should be 2016 by the time I can afford one!

I have a movable block dressage saddle and I love it because I have been able to adjust the position (and size) of the blocks to suit me. My saddle also has velcro sections in front and behind the girth straps on the sweat flap which means that I can add thigh blocks underneath the flap too. I use think thigh blocks on the sweat flap in front of the girth straps and I find tht this set up holds be in a really secure position which is also comfortable. Having said that I have never tried a monoflap or fixed surface mounted block dressage saddle so don't know if I would prefer the feel to mine or not. Would your saddler be able to bring a selection so that you can try both and see which you prefer?

Edited to add that the movable blocks on my saddle are surface mounted so maybe I am in the surface mounted camp after all! :-D

You need to ride in a few. For most people the placement of the block is far more important (and how it fits the horse of course is the most important). Some people find velcro moveable blocks bulky and too visible, some like a fixed block under the flap and others like a surface mounted block. The old dressage saddles were all much more like a showing saddle with a small under flap pencil knee block and a smooth flap or a small knee pad. My how times have changed!

Thanks everybody, guess I am just going to have to try and see!
I would really like to be comfy but the most important thing for me really is aslong as Belle is happy with her new saddle.
